Last Odyssey

Ending Combat

A battle is over when one of the two opposing sides has no active characters remaining on the field, or when one of the sides has successfully fled. If the players have all been downed or killed, the party will lose something important before they come to. For example, a group of robbers might steal all of their ¤, a group of wolves might eat all of their Supplies, and a Monster might kidnap them and drag them into their lair.

Battle 🜹

At the end of a battle, every downed warrior will grant each Hero 🜹 and also award items to the entire party. Each Normal warrior downed in combat awards 1 🜹 to each member of the party, while Elite warriors are worth 3 🜹, and Antagonists are worth 5 🜹 per Form. If the players successfully flee a battle, they do not receive any rewards. However, if their opponents successfully flee or if the entire party is downed, the players still receive the rewards for any warriors they downed before the battle ended.

Sometimes, players will encounter warriors that are of a higher or lower tier than they are. If this is the case, the 🜹 they earn from each warrior is modified by the difference between the PCs’ tier and their opponents’ tier. If the PCs are of a higher tier than their opponents, the difference is subtracted, while if the PCs are of a lower tier the difference is added to the 🜹 they earn for a given warrior. The minimum amount of 🜹 that Heroes can earn from a given warrior is 1, and the maximum is 10. For example, if a group of Heroes of tier 3 defeats 5 Elite warriors of tier 1, then the total amount of 🜹 each one earns will be 5.

Item Tables

In addition to earned 🜹, each defeated warrior drops an item from its item table, while Elite warriors will drop two items from their Item Table. The item table is a list of three possible items that a warrior can drop, each of which is assigned a number from 1 to 3. To determine which item a warrior drops, the GM casts 1d4. The result corresponds to the item the warrior drops. If the result is a 4, the warrior does not drop an item. The Thief’s Steal ability also allows allies to gain 1 more item per warrior from their Item Table.
